This hands-on workshop invited all museum goers to an evening of collaging and conversation. Using existing museum catalogues of past exhibitions and art books, participants created collages based on prompts regarding new possibilities of museum futures.
The event offered a space for all to craft in community, while re-using and re-envisioning.
We asked questions such as What will happen in the RISD museum in one year, 10 years, a 100 years?
How will museums in the future interact with the digital world? What will physically change about museums?
By using resources from the past, new futures were imagined.
The event brought in people from all walks of life- young children were collaging on the same table as college professors, engaging in friendly conversation. It was interesting to see the stigma participants hand while dealing with museum catalogues that were considered pristine. The fact that they could rip them apart was daunting for most at first, but mostĀ felt empowered after the initial shock and spent time working on their work.
Here are some of the participants' collages
After the event, the group spent time reflecting on the event and discussed improvements for future programs.
